Armstrong School Rises to Celebrate Chinese Moon Festival

Chinese calligraphy, dance and song were among Monday night's activities.

Some Armstrong Elementary School students and parents tried Chinese calligraphy Monday night in the school cafeteria.

They also sampled traditional moon cakes. And tried using chopsticks.

And viewed a slide presentation by Jen Li, a member of the school's diversity council.

And then, introduced by parent Hairong Chen, students from Westborough and neighboring communities danced and sung on the stage.

Monday night's introduction to the Chinese Moon Festival was the latest such event, each focusing on a different culture, organized by the diversity council, council member Janet Hart told the crowd.

"We are truly a blessed community to have people from so many different nationalities attend the Armstrong School," Hart said.

Art created by nearly 400 students hung on one of the cafeteria walls.

"Please make sure that you look at it, because it's truly, truly beautiful," Hart said.

Hart told Westborough Patch the event is the first of four that the council will present this year.
