The 4th Annual Westborough Sprint Triathlon sponsored by the Rotary Club of Westborough in partnership with Sun Multisports and Central One Federal Credit Union was held on Sunday, August 18th. The event exceed all expectations with more than 400 athletes competing in traditional swim, bike and run events in addition to an off-road bike segment and a splash & dash (no-bike) segment. The weather was perfect in the mid-70’s with a little cloud cover. More than 120 volunteers including Rotarians, family, friends and community groups contributed to the site preparation and the safety of all competing athletes. A service event, significant revenue from the event will go to the American Diabetes Association and the fight against diabetes.
Here’s a set of photos which capture the fun and beauty of the event, which was held on Westborough State Hospital grounds on the shore of Lake Chauncey. Many participants and observers expressed great relief that the town of Westborough is in line to purchase much of the state hospital grounds, therefore preserving a lot of what you see for future public enjoyment and events like this. For those enjoying the photos we did not caption them with the names of athletes or other participants. A list of winners, with times, will be posted on the Sun Multisports website.
For photo buffs all my photos were taken with my new very small Olympus XZ-1 camera which offers a very fast lens with fine optics, a very wide zoom range and full manual controls.
