Westborough Voters to Make 31 Decisions

Whether electronic handset voting will occur during this fall special town meeting is the first of 31 questions awaiting voters.

Five warrant articles deal with Westborough's proposed purchase of roughly 95 acres of the former Westborough State Hospital from the state Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance for $2.2 million. 

A proposed tax increment financing deal between Westborough and Cumberland Farms Inc. also is on the warrant.

And six proposed Westborough zoning changes seek to scrap outdated rules or redundancies, town planning officials say.

And Westborough's Bicycle and Pedestrian Ad Hoc Committee seeks $22,000 from the open space reserve account to secure easements for about 4.5 miles of a potential multi-use trail.

And one warrant article asks voters to approve a state law allowing municipalities to create a tax relief fund to assist seniors and the disabled.

And Westborough Public Library officials seek special town meeting approval to apply for and spend a $40,000 Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners planning and design grant toward meeting the community's future needs at 55 West Main St.,
