Westborough Voters Get 2nd Try at Electronic Voting

Selectmen agreed Tuesday night to accept Option Technologies International's offer of a second free trial, this time at the March 15 annual town meeting.

Westborough voters will get to try electronic voting for the second time in less than a year.

And then they'll decide whether to fund the service at town meetings during the fiscal year starting July 1.

Selectmen agreed Tuesday night to accept Option Technologies International's offer of a second free trial, this time at the March 15 annual town meeting.

OTI also served Westborough, for free, at the Oct. 21, 2013 fall special town meeting.

An article seeking funding for the service for the next town meetings will be on the March 15 warrant, selectmen said.

Town Moderator Joe Harrington, representing the ad hoc committee on electronic voting, said that "I thought it worked, as far as the technology," in October.

Harrington said the voters who have told him they're not in favor of continuing with electronic voting have questioned the cost.

He estimated the cost at $40,000 to $50,000.
