State DEP Says Reservoir Needs Stormwater Work

"Every three years, DEP comes in and basically does a full audit of the entire water system," Town Planner/Conservation Officer Derek Saari told selectmen Tuesday night.

The state Department of Environmental Protection is “now telling us that we need to take care of and manage the stormwater in and around the reservoir,” Assistant Town Planner/Conservation Officer Derek Saari says.

“Every three years, DEP comes in and basically does a full audit of the entire water system,” Saari told selectmen Tuesday night.

This recent sanitary survey identified “a deficiency at the reservoir, and it’s relative to stormwater work,” he said.

Saari noted the work for which he has received town board and town meeting approval.

“I began forecasting that at some point, we were probably going to have some answers relative to the survey around the reservoir,” he said.

Saari said he has followed up with DEP by phone and discussed the stormwater work since 2002 around the reservoir.

He said he’ll put together “a large report for DPW to answer these two questions, so that it is on file.”
