Sikh Temple Seeks Planning Board Permit

The board expects to see a draft decision on July 30.

Work at a Sikh temple planned for Flanders Road would start in August or September if the Westborough Planning Board grants the project an earth moving special permit, project engineer Randy Waterman told the board Tuesday night.

The New England Sikh Study Circle Inc. must first address issues raised by Town Engineer Carl Balduf in new correspondence, as well as grant easements required by the board of selectmen's site plan approval, planning board Chairman Lester Hensley said.

The planning board Tuesday night opened its earth moving special permit public hearing, discussed the topic, and continued the hearing to 8:10 p.m. July 30 at the Forbes Municipal Building.

Town Planner Jim Robbins will have a draft decision prepared for that meeting, Hensley said.

Tuesday night's hearing came nearly two years after selectmen approved the project's site plan, on Sept. 27, 2011, according to the town's website.

The temple would be located at 168 Flanders Road.

Waterman said the New England Sikh Study Circle Inc. seeks four waivers for the earth moving permit.

Robbins said he supports granting them.
