Pedestrian Safety a Concern During Farmers' Market

Would a cone in the sidewalk slow traffic?

Parked cars, and traffic, are safety hazards for pedestrians crossing West Main Street near the Congregational Church during the Westborough Farmers' Market on Thursdays, Selectman Leigh Emery says.

The area can be similarly busy on Sunday mornings, "even as far as the high school, when you've got a busy Mass at St. Luke's," Selectmen Vice Chairman George Barrette adds.

At Emery's suggestion, selectmen plan to discuss with Police Chief Alan Gordon possibly putting a cone in the center of the sidewalk there during busy times such as the farmers' market.

The cone would "slow people down a little bit," Emery said.

"It really worries me, because there are so many parents with baby carriages," she said.
