WPD Investigating Overnight Fatal Accident

Accident occurred just after 12:30 a.m. on Route 9.

Police in Westborough are investigating an overnight fatal accident on Route 9 east.

The accident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, in front of Speedway Plaza, where police found a 2001 Dodge Caravan rolled over and the driver stuck inside, according to a press release from the Westborough Police Department.

The vehicle's driver, identified as Pablo C. Salcedo of Wesborough, was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Medical Examiner's Office, the press release said.

Investigators believe that Salcedo's vehicle was heading west on Route 9, when he struck the sand barrels at the Speedway Plaza intersection, and then the Jersey barrier, before rolling onto its side and over into the eastbound lane, where it collided with a Honda CRV.

The other vehicle involved was driven by a Marlborough man, who was uninjured, the press release said.

The roadway was cleared around 7 a.m. Sunday morning. The accident is being investigated by Officer Clifford Luce and other officers from the CEMLEC accident reconstruction unit.
