A two-car crash on Interstate 495 in Middleborough killed a Carver man and injured the other driver, of Westborough, late Thursday night.
The 51-year-old Westborough resident was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham with non-life threatening injuries stemming from the 11:10 p.m. accident on I-495 southbound, north of Exit 2, state police said in a press release today. State police did not identify him.
The other driver, George Victoria, 50, of Carver was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
Trooper Adam LeBlanc's preliminary investigation indicates that both Victoria and the Westborough man were driving south "when, for reasons still under investigation," the 2004 Ford F-250 driven by Victoria went off the highway and struck a tree, according to the press release.
The vehicle driven by the Westborough man "as also involved in the crash but it has yet to be determined whether the vehicles collided. What role the second vehicle played in the crash is part of the ongoing investigation," state police said.
State police continue investigating the crash.
The left lane of I-495 South was closed for about two-and-a-half hours after the crash, state police said.
