Van Collides With School Bus

Two elementary students were not injured.

Two Westborough elementary students escaped injury after their school bus was struck while picking students up on West Main Street at Oldham Road on Thursday morning, police say.

Westborough Fire Department paramedics examined the two students after the incident, which was reported at about 8:25 a.m., police said in a press release.

Armstrong Elementary School Principal John Mendes and Fales Elementary School Principal Maryann Stannard, as well as one parent, responded to the scene, police said.

Mendes brought one of the two students to Armstrong, while the parent of the other student brought her to Fales, police said.

The crash is under investigation.

So far, the investigation has revealed that the 2006 International bus was stopped on West Main, picking up students, when a 2007 Chevy Van, heading west on West Main, "did not notice the bus stopped and collided with the rear of the bus," police said.

The bus received minor rear end damage, while the van had extensive front end damage.

Police identified the bus driver as Carolyn Jarosz, 67, of 49 Boston Road, Southborough. The driver of the van is Timothy R. Callahan, 64, of 950 Hill St., Whitinsville.
