Firefighters Rescue Dog Trapped Beneath Wire Fencing

The incident happened Thursday.

Thursday, a white Jack Russell terrier named Mia was "trapped beneath a large pile of wire fencing that was previously used for farming," next to Mill Pond, Westborough Fire Lt. Patrick Purcell said.

Westborough Firefighters Craig Rossi and Jon Winslow rescued Mia by digging a hole to an area beneath her, Purcell said Thursday.

They then returned Mia to her owner, Deborah Okita of 1 Thistle Hill Lane, he said.

Okita had called the fire department at 8:39 a.m. from the woods behind 20 Andrews St. to report that Mia "had gotten loose and was trapped," he said.
