Fire Station Project to be 'Loud at Times' Soon

Stone crushing work will start next week and last about two or three weeks.

Construction of the new Westborough Fire Station will be "loud at times" starting next week and lasting about two or three weeks, Town Manager Jim Malloy said Monday.

The sound will be from stone crushing work, which will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Malloy said in a press release.

Earth moving begins this week at the site, next to the current fire station at 42 Milk St., Malloy said.

A groundbreaking ceremony is set for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Voters at the Oct. 15, 2012 special town meeting approved $11.2 million to design and build the new station.

Last month, selectmen awarded the construction contract to G & R Construction Inc. for $8.2 million.
