When word that then-Tropical Storm Sandy might affect Westborough last week, preparation began behind the Forbes Municipal Building.
Explorer Post 85 Emergency Service Squad members began testing their equipment to ensure it is ready if needed the next few days, Vice President Nate Rand and press secretary Curtis Rand said Sunday.
The group is the Westborough Fire Department's youth auxiliary.
When hurricanes, such as Sandy, or other states of emergency are on the horizon, “we always double-check our generators," Nate Rand said.
"We have everyone check the storm drains. We have some people, during the storm, stay down here if they can, and have the post ready and right there, if we need it," he said.
During Snowtober last Halloween, “we powered the food pantry’s refrigerators," said Dana Haagensen, one of the post's adult advisers.
The post also supplied power for the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency’s radio tower across from the Westborough District Court, he said.
