Resident Alan Ostrander has lived here for 19 years, raising his family in town, Police Chief Alan Gordon told selectmen, who appointed Ostrander.

A Westborough call firefighter was appointed a reserve intermittent Westborough police officer Tuesday night.

Resident Alan Ostrander has lived here for 19 years, raising his family in town, Police Chief Alan Gordon told selectmen, who appointed Ostrander.

Ostrander worked for IBM for a number of years before retiring, Gordon said.

"He came to me and asked if I would put him in the reserve intermittent police academy," the chief said.

"I said, 'Absolutely.' The fire chief spoke very highly of him."

Ostrander has graduated from the academy, Gordon said.

"He's available during the day because he's retired," which is "exactly what we need," the chief said.
