Alleged Shoplifters Hit Target, Walmart

Westborough Police arrested them Friday.

Two alleged shoplifters struck Target on Route 9 in Westborough and Walmart, directly across the street in Northborough, on Friday, Westborough Police say.

The reported stolen items -- the flat screen TV and the vacuum cleaner from Target, and the two computers from Walmart -- were seen by Westborough Police Officer Jeffrey Keaveney in the alleged getaway car, police said in a press release.

Keaveney had stopped the car in front of Jiffy Lube. He had been stationary at Route 9 at Lyman Street when he saw the gray Audi. The shoplifting at Target had been reported to police around 1:38 p.m., and the caller said the suspects headed east on Route 9 in the Audi, police said.

Police arrested the driver, Ryan Powell, 21, of 11 Mays Field Road, Lunenberg, and passenger Stephen Albert, 26, of 64 Liberty St., Leominster, and charged both with shoplifting, and larceny over $250.

Police said they also arrested Albert on four outstanding warrants: three from Fitchburg District Court for motor vehicle offenses, and a default warrant from Leominster District Court for violating probation for breaking and entering a motor vehicle, and larceny.

Powell and Albert face arraignment Monday in Westborough District Court.
