Alleged Repeat Drunken Driver Faces Firearms Charges

He allegedly rear-ended another driver at Route 9 at Lyman Street on Tuesday night.

An alleged repeat drunken driver had "a .22 caliber pistol and numerous ammunition" in his van after it allegedly rear-ended a car at Route 9 at Lyman Street on Tuesday night, Westborough Police say.

Both drivers were injured in the crash, which was reported around 8:39 p.m., police said in a press release Wednesday. Westborough Fire Department paramedics treated both drivers and transported them to UMass Medical.

Police have charged Stephen A. DiTomasso, 39, of 225 Main St., Whitinsville, with operating under the influence of alcohol, second offense; operating after the suspension of his license; following too close; operating so as to endanger; possession of a firearm without a permit; and possession of ammunition without a permit. Sgt. Peter Goodney arrested DiTomasso.

Police said their investigation showed DiTomasso was driving a 2004 Chrysler van that rear-ended a 2014 Chevrolet sedan driven by Kenneth W. Hogan, 67, of 135 Clubhouse Lane, Northbridge.

The firearms charges against DiTomasso stem from officers' search of his van, police said.

Police said they found "a .22 caliber pistol and numerous ammunition for a shotgun, .357 handgun and the .22 caliber pistol."

DiTomasso faces arraignment Wednesday in Westborough District Court.
