Letter to the Editor: Mill Pond Students' Mural Brightens Holiday Store

Westborough Youth and Family Services appreciated the work.

To the Editor:

The Spirit of the Season is alive and well and residing at Mill Pond School.  Recently, several Mill Pond School sixth graders, under the direction of Guidance Counselor Karen Hong, took time out of their free time to create a mural that serves as a backdrop for the WYFS Free Holiday Store.

Ms. Hong said the students discussed how retail stores decorate lavishly for the holidays but that they wanted the Holiday Store experience to be warm and welcoming and caring. So the students created a mural that depicts children playing, gingerbread men and snowmen dancing, and snow (in the form of soft cotton balls) falling on a happy winter scene. It is their way of wishing “Happy Holidays” to the families visiting the Holiday Store.

All work done on the mural was completed outside of academic class time, at times when these sixth grade students could have been with friends having fun and taking a break.

WYFS would like to thank these students and Ms. Hong for their thoughtful gift and help in spreading holiday cheer.
