Westborough Remembers Robert Wood

He was a member of Siloam Lodge, VFW Post 9013, and WASA.

Robert L. (Woodie) Wood died peacefully on Jan. 2, 2014.

Woodie was born in Somerville to Vernon and Marcia Wood, and was proud to call Westborough his home for more than 75 years. He was a graduate of Westborough High School, and entered the Navy in 1945. He served honorably in the submarine service at Pearl Harbor, HI for four years.

Upon his return to Westborough, he worked as an operating engineer for many construction companies as a member of Local 4. After his retirement, he worked for the Town of Westborough's  Recreation Department. He was a member of Siloam Lodge in Westborough and held the distinction of 32nd degree Mason. In addition, he was a lifelong member of VFW Post 9013 in Westborough, and a longtime member of W.A.S.A.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan (O'Brien) Wood; daughters Donna McNamara and her husband Dennis Crehan of Alexandria, Va., Lori Kinney and her husband Craig of Westborough, and Traci McCarthy of Derry N.H.; and his grandchildren Philip Leaman, Alison Smith, Zak McNamara, Conor Kinney, and Hannah Schwalke. In addition, he leaves his brother, Ralph Wood of Florida; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law,  sisters-in-law, and good friends.

Mr. Wood was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Vernon Wood Jr., and Richard Wood, and his sister, Lorraine Minardi.

There are no calling hours, and private internment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence, 1183 Main St., Worcester, MA  01603.
