Westborough Mourns Spyro Economou

The local businessman, who was known for his support for Westborough, died Monday.

Westborough is mourning local businessman Spyridon "Spyro" Economou, who was known for his support for Westborough.

Mr. Economou died on Monday after a massive heart attack at his Worcester home, according to his obituary. He was 52.

Mr. Economou's father, Paul, opened the Westborough House of Pizza in 1970, and "Spyro owned and operated the business with his brother Fred for more than 27 years, expanding it ten years ago into a restaurant and bar called Westborough House," the obituary notes.

The restaurant, at 36 East Main St., has been closed so that Mr. Economou's loved ones may mourn him, according to a note on the door Thursday. The restaurant will re-open on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester, MA 01609.
