Community Remembers Vivian Sigel

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday.

Vivian B. (Steinberg) Sigel, 85, of 80 Aylesbury Road, Worcester, died on Monday, Dec. 9 at her Cape Cod residence after an illness. Her husband of 54 years, Morton H. Sigel, died in 2006. 

She leaves three children, Robert Sigel and his wife Susan of Mashpee; Deborah, wife of Jonathan Sloane of Cotuit; and Jonathan Sigel and his wife Lisa of Westborough; a brother, Norman Steinberg and his wife Tonya of Boca Raton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren: Jeremy Sigel and his wife Rebecca, Joshua Sigel and his wife Erica, Zachary Sigel and his wife Erica, Evan Sigel, Adam Sloane, Julie Sloane, Sarah Sloane, Arielle Sigel, Benjamin Sigel and Sabrina Sigel; and two great-grandchildren, Levi and Ruby Sigel. She was predeceased by her brother, Morton Steinberg.

She was born in Worcester and was the daughter of Hyman and Mollie (Rovner) Sigel and was a lifelong resident, maintaining a winter residence in Highland Park, Fla.

She and her husband Morton H. Sigel were noted for their philanthropies in the Worcester area, including Clark University. She was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue and its Sisterhood and was a Lion of Judah of the Worcester Jewish Federation, ORT, Hadassah, Worcester Art Museum and Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research. She graduated from Hebrew College in Boston, and for many years she taught at Beth Israel Synagogue's Hebrew School. 

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 11 in Beth Israel Synagogue, on Jamesbury Drive in Worcester, under the direction of Richard Perlman of Brezniak Rodman Chapels of Newton. Burial will be in B'nai Brith Cemetery in Worcester.
 
Following the interment, Memorial Observance will be in Beth Israel Synagogue and will continue at the family residence in Worcester from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday noon to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday 11 a.m.  to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association on Lyman Street, Westborough, Beth Israel Synagogue, Worcester, Cape Cod Healthcare, Mugar Cancer Center in Hyannis or to Visiting Nurses Association of Cape Cod in South Dennis.
