Community Remembers Frederick Bergstrom Sr.

The funeral is Tuesday.

Frederick E. Bergstrom Sr., 87, of Worcester, died Thursday, Jan. 16 in St. Vincent Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Frances E. (Roche) Bergstrom; two sons, Frederick E. Bergstrom Jr. and his wife Maureen of Westborough and James S. Bergstrom and his wife Maureen of Upton; two daughters, Ann E. Murphy and her husband T. Michael of Ashburnham and Catherine L. Fogarty of Rutland; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and James Bergstrom, and two sisters, Virginia and Margaret Bergstrom.

He was born in Worcester, the son of Edward and Margaret (Walsh) Bergstrom and graduated from Worcester Junior College. In his younger years, Mr. Bergstrom was an iron worker at the former U.S. Steel Company, and later worked as a salesman for New England Grocer, retiring in 1991. 

Mr. Bergstrom was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, having served as a lector, choir member, and volunteer for many years.

The funeral is Tuesday, Jan. 21 from the O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 600 Cambridge St. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
