ONLY TIME

Thus we are always "running out of time," "time is slipping through our fingers," "time is the enemy," (don't you just love that one!)

 

Songs are always jumping in and out my head, especially when I am creating a talk or seminar.  Does this happen to you?  Sort of a blessing, because I love music, but, sometimes a curse when you can’t stop humming that song all the day long!  So, this past week when I was preparing for a radio show, Only Time, by Enya, a lovely, soothing song was going strong upstairs!

Like I said, I was preparing for an interview on a national radio talk show, WNET, Amazing Women of Power (AWOP).  The interview topic was “The Time of Your Life, Secrets to Elevating Your Personal Energy in Time.”  I’ve been working with so many people in my coaching practice who are trying to reel in their commitments and basic state of overwhelm with the lives they are living.  Only trouble is, they aren’t really running their lives, their lives are running them.  I feel like we’re all about to implode from the demands placed on us, but more correctly, that we place on ourselves.  It’s time for a Crazy Busy Cure!

Multi-tasking has become common vocabulary and we think we’re accomplishing an incredible amount.  But, guess what, research is showing that multi-tasking is doing us more harm than good.  Did we really need science to tell us that?!  What is the cost to real priorities in your life when your daily/weekly calendar has more in it than the hours of the day allow?  Are we feeling that there is a sense of accomplishment, productivity, engagement or are we chasing ourselves round and round, never really being complete with tasks or taking in the incredible life experiences available to us?  Our personal energy doesn’t get matched to what we expect of ourselves day in and day out.

Thus we are always “running out of time,” “time is slipping through our fingers,” “time is the enemy,” (don’t you just love that one!)  And all the things you need to get done are in random locations throughout your home, office, car, organizers and most importantly in your head.  The space that all of this busyness takes up in your head creates fertile ground for stress related dis-ease.

I think it’s time for an old fashioned movement!  Let’s take back our time, slow down, be present.  Commit as a community of intelligent individuals to work towards a common goal of aligning the time in our lives with our values, passions and priorities.  Ooops, here comes another song, now it’s “The Time of Your Life” by Green Day!
