Michael Dukakis to Speak in Westborough - Remembering Jack and Nancy Lawton

Former Governor Michael Dukakis is the guest speaker at the Westborough Democratic Town Committee meeting on Tuesday, July 16 at 7 PM at Tatnuck Booksellers at 18 Lyman Street in Westborough.

Governor Dukakis will be talking about Jack and Nancy Lawton, as well as sharing tales from the campaign trail. When Michael Dukakis was running for Lieutenant Governor in 1970, Jack Lawton served as his campaign manager. Nancy Lawton was active in Democratic politics for many years, including serving as Chair of the Westborough Democratic Town Committee. The Lawtons were Westborough residents when they died in car accident in 1991. At the time Jack Lawton was the minister at St. Stephen's parish. Lawtons' Way in Westborough was named in their honor.

We're excited that Governor and Kitty Dukakis are coming to Westborough. Although it has been twenty two years, there are many people here in Westborough who knew and cared for the Lawtons. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.

This event has special meaning to me. In 1981 I was a younger person who spent most of my free time hiking and volunteering in the hiking community. I saw an article in the paper announcing that Michael Dukakis would be in Westborough to meet people as part of his run for Governor. My husband and I came to the event and we have been active in politics here in Westborough ever since.
