Presidential National Day of Service - Food Drive

Westborough Democrats conduct food drive as part of the Presidential Day of Service.

On Tuesday, January 15, the Democratic Town Committee is kicking of a food drive as part of the President Obama's National Day of Service. This year, like in 2009, the President has called on Americans to engage in acts of service in the spirit of Dr. King on January 19. This is an opportunity to honor Martin Luther King's legacy and form lasting connections to local organizations doing great work. This is a non-partisan effort designed to focus on service.

Please join us at Tatnuck Bookseller at 18 Lyman Street in Westborough on Tuesday, January 15 at 7:00 PM and bring non-perishable food. Always welcome are staples such as canned tuna, pasta, spaghetti sauce and high protein foods. If you can't join s on Tuesday, donations are welcome at my home at 17 Gary Circle here in Westborough. You don't have to call in advance; just leave food in the breezeway.

The food drive will be in conjunction with our monthly meeting of Westborough Democrats. We'll be discussing the President's National Day of Service, plans for the upcoming caucus and the upcoming candidate's night. Our meetings are open to all who are interested in getting involved with Democratic Party activities and candidates, here in Westborough or in the area.

For those who are able to actively take part in an event on Saturday, there is a painting project sponsored by the Worcester Housing Authority. From 11 AM to 2 PM, volunteers will be painting rooms in a low-income area.  There will also be a project at Veteran's Inc. on Grove Street in Worcester. Volunteers will meet at 1 PM and work on cleaning the kitchen and dining room.  Get more information at http://www.2013pic.org/service/serve
