Lydia Goldblatt, Thank You for 24 Years of Service

While some may see our friendship as unlikely, we have more in common that we have differences.

She had served the town for 24 years in many capacities. Lydia has truly been a dedicated public servant. I have known Lydia as someone who has been very committed to her work as a member of the Board of Selectmen, taking her responsibilities very seriously.

Lydia is a good friend. Lydia is as committed to supporting the goals of the Republican Party as I am to supporting the Democratic Party. While some may see our friendship as unlikely, we have more in common that we have differences. Some may see our friendship as unlikely, but we truly enjoy each other's company.

There are many things that I admire about Lydia. In addition to her elected work, she has worked to serve the town through actively volunteering with civic groups. She has an extraordinary commitment to her day job, as Director of Constituent Services for Senator Scott Brown. She puts in long hours and works hard to ensure that people get the help they need.

Family and friends are very important to her. She is deeply committed to her three daughters and spends as much time with them as she can. I very much respect the fact that Lydia makes a point of getting to know the people who represent her, no matter what their Party affiliation may be. She makes an effort to hear people who are running for office and takes the time to learn about their views.

A few years back I went to Lydia's election night celebration when she was re-elected to the board of Selectman. I mentioned that I was flying out to Santa Barbara the next day. I didn't know until I got in the plane that forest fires were threatening Santa Barbara. Lydia made sure to check on me to be sure that we were OK.  I did spend several days watching the forest fire, but fortunately we did not have to evacuate.

When Deval Patrick was elected as Governor of the Commonwealth, one of my first calls the next morning was from Lydia, congratulating me. When Scott Brown was elected to the U. S. Senate, my first call the next day was to Lydia to congratulate her. So if some Saturday morning you think that you are seeing  Lydia Goldblatt and me having breakfast at Christina's, you're not mistaken.

To my friend Lydia, thank you for twenty four years of service.
