Friends of the Seniors Dispute: Who Do You Believe?

When a non-profit group in a community makes headlines for two straight days, the news usually is about a successful fundraiser or check presentations.

Monday and Tuesday, the Friends of the Westborough Senior Center Inc. found itself trading press releases with the town and the Westborough Council on Aging over the non-profit group's spending.

Monday, town officials and the council announced they cut ties with the Friends, which they claim are "refusing to provide a complete accounting of their fundraising activities and expenditures on behalf of the Westborough Senior Center to the Town and Council on Aging."

Tuesday, the Friends responded by saying that “We are stunned that the Town has decided to sever a relationship with an organization which has devoted its entire income to support worthy senior projects simply because we did not agree to fund the Executive Director’s pet projects."

Who do you believe? And, what should happen next?
