Wedding at the House of Pizza

Even the JP (Justice of the Peace) was chuckling about what a great location this will be.

It was a beautiful Sunday. My son and I had spent the day riding on our motorcycles while his fiancé had your bridal shower. During the day, we did the normal “checking in” on Facebook, and posting pictures.

I had just arrived home when at 3:04PM I got a text message:

Fred:  you still riding…easy rider

Me: A wedding, really?

Fred: Yes sir

“WHOP” in this context is the .

The man pacing on the House of Pizza patio was the Groom, Scott Holmes. After introducing myself, I asked his fiancé’s name (Ariel Montero) and the question on everyone’s mind, “Why the House of Pizza?”

“She’s friends with them and this is the best place we could think of that’s fun. Even the JP (Justice of the Peace) was chuckling about what a great location this will be.”

Spyro Economou, Fred’s brother and co-owner of the Westborough House of Pizza, was busy preparing for the event. “We’ve done a number of receptions over the years, and never a wedding. This will be a first. We’re excited to help Ariel and Scott on their big day.”

The other brother Economou, Fred, arrived with his family. In an age of miniaturization, Fred brought the biggest digital SLR camera I’ve ever seen. “I’d like to take some pictures for Ariel and Scott…even if it is my day off,” with his characteristic big smile.

As I hung in the background taking it all in, my initial surprise at the location gave way to the traditions of the event.

The House of Pizza staff cleared a large area on the front patio, and removed the umbrellas, creating a nice outdoor space. The Groom helped arrange the area, recognizing Ariel may change it all. When the Groom changed into more formal attire, his mood subtly shifted to the wedding at hand. Ariel, on the other hand, was preparing “off site,” and arrived just in time for everyone.

Families and friends enjoyed the informality of the event, milling about comfortably on the open patio. The JP officiated the event (captured on YouTube…the audio improves as the ceremony continues).

Then it struck me. It doesn’t matter where you are married, as long as you are with those you love and who love you.

Clearly this was the case tonight for Ariel and Scott tonight on the patio…lost in each other as they danced their first dance as a married couple.
