Restaurant Review: Ted's Montana Grill

We had to check with Lauren, as we weren't sure all the ingredients would go together, especially the jam.

Fridays working from home can be fun, especially when your friend/business partner comes over. My laptop PC was suffering symptoms of hard drive failure, and he was performing surgery before the patient died and I was rebuilding the hard drive from Carbonite.

As a particularly long copy process started, I asked if it was a good time to slip away for lunch. It was, and my friend immediately said he wanted to go to Ted’s.

Ted’s? Really?”

My friend replied, “I like the burgers there.”

So it was off to Ted’s.

Ted’s was the first restaurant in the Bay State Commons, opening November 2008, and I’ve never been a huge fan. Service is always great and the food just seems to miss.

“It’s a burger place,” was my friend’s reminder.

“It is??” was my query.

Founded by media entrepreneur and environmentalist Ted Turner and restaurateur George McKerrow Jr, Ted’s Montana Grill is “a classic American Grill featuring fresh, made-from-scratch comfort food within an authentic turn-of-the-century Montana grill atmosphere.” The first Ted’s Montana Grill opened in January 2002 in Columbus, Ohio, and has grown to 46 restaurants in 16 states.

Ted’s offers “comfort food” and introduces many to eating bison.

Hmm….Ted’s is a burger place. Seems at least one reviewer agrees. And they sell no pasta other than a kid’s mac and cheese, so my daughter couldn’t carbo load there before running the Boston Marathon.

Ted’s does compare comfortably with Not Your Average Joes. Their Montana grill theme is complemented by an environmental push, with waterless features in some bathrooms, cardboard straws, and paper table cloths.

During our visit, the regular menu was complemented with a special burger menu (picture attached).

So Burgers it is!

I had an extremely filling Canyon Creek burger, a sandwich our server Lauren described as a manwich. Cheddar cheese, smoky bacon, diced fresh jalapenos, blackberry jam and a fried egg “over easy” on a corn roasted Kaiser roll. We had to check with Lauren, as we weren’t sure all the ingredients would go together, especially the jam. The truth is….it was a fabulous sandwich.

My buddy had a “New” New Mexico burger topped with melted pepper jack cheese, roasted Anaheim pepper, fresh guacamole and a spicy house made tomato jam on the corn dusted roll.

We opted for both in the Certified Angus beef, as neither one of us is wowed by the Bison. Each medium rare burger came more towards medium well….and both were still dripping down your arm juicy. Each came with a side of tasty fries.

When you are looking for a juicy innovative burger…Ted’s is a great place to go.
