Restaurant Review - Chez Siam

Settling in with a glass of chardonnay (beer and wine only) while waiting for my food, the "pinkness" of the restaurant struck me. Pink walls, pink chair pads, pink napkins, pink in the carpet…

I hadn’t intended to go to Marlborough for dinner, and Thai wasn’t on my mind.

Leaving the Westborough Rotary Club’s Festival of Lights (at the Rotary), I was in the Christmas spirit and decided to look for some early Christmas lights.

Going past the Tufts Machine Lot, truckloads of Christmas trees were on display by the Westborough Civic Club.

As I drove by the ‘Old Mandarin,' I was struck by the new Bangkok sign. Alas, while there were some lights on inside, they were not yet open.

Continuing out East Main Street, I was curious what the guy at 210 East Main was doing for lights. Some years he goes all out…especially when temperate. While we’ve had snow, he’s already been out bringing some joy to East Main.

Heck….Christmas lights and Thai food. Time to head to Marlborough.

My go-to spot for Thai food is Chez Siam on Route 20 at Hosmer in Marlborough. It was meant to be; they were decorating their Christmas trees when I arrived.

The dinner menu offers a wide range of Thai options. It turns out Pad Thai is their most popular entrée, and is number 5 on CNN’s list of the world's 50 most delicious foods. How could you go wrong?

Settling in with a glass of chardonnay (beer and wine only) while waiting for my food, the “pinkness” of the restaurant struck me. Pink walls, pink chair pads, pink napkins, pink in the carpet…enough with the pink already!  The main dining room seats 38, and there is function space on a second floor and additional seating in a side area. This place never seems “busy,” and has a solid take out service. Is it the pink?

Without further pink contemplation, my meal was served. Chez Siam’s version of Pad Thai is stir fried rice noodles with shrimp, chicken, egg, ground peanuts, bean sprouts and scallions. Their Pad Thai is fresh…the bean sprouts offered a crispness compared to the soft noodles. Very tasty, and a very nice consistency. The noodles are hot in temperature (not hot in flavor), and delectable.

The bill was pleasing as well. $8.95 for the entrée, and $5.50 for wine, totaling $15.35 with tax.

So until something better/local comes along (hint hint Bangkok) my go to Thai place is Chez Siam in Marlborough.
