Local Liquor Store Celebrates 40 Years in Business

Westborough, MA –Julio’s Liquors has not
always been the local destination that it is today. Family-owned and operated
since inception, Julio’s Liquors was opened in 1974 by Ron Maloney and his brothers-in-law,
Gene Colangelo and Julio Colangelo. The current owner, Ryan Maloney—son of Ron
Maloney, bought the business in 2000 and has watched it bloom into one of the
best liquor stores in the country with international recognition.

Julio’s Liquors is currently celebrating its 40th
anniversary as a business. To celebrate this milestone, the liquor store has
planned a number of special bonus sales that will occur throughout the
remainder of the year. Giving back to the consumers that have allowed them to
stay in business was cited as a priority of Ryan Maloney’s.

“Of course, we wouldn’t be where we are today if it
weren’t for our employees,” said Ryan Maloney. Based on that sentiment, he has
decided to shut down the store for a day and treat all of his employees to a
day of fun. On August 4th, the store will close so that all of its
employees and their families can enjoy a day at Six Flags New England, courtesy

As the business grows, Julio’s Liquors is sweeping
up awards left and right, from local to international, and their reputation
often precedes them. Every year since 2011, Wicked Local has awarded them with
a gold star in the Reader’s Choice Awards. The Massachusetts Beverage Business
named Julio’s Liquor Retailer of the Year in 2011. The American Beverage
Licenses named the liquor store Retailer of the Year twice, once with each
owner. Ryan Maloney was also chosen as a Market Watch Leader in 2012.

And on a more global scale, Whisky Magazine, one of
the top whisky publications distributed worldwide, has recognized Julio’s
Liquors by nominating them for an award titled Whisky Retailer of the Year
Single Outlet, which they won in 2013 and received high accolades for in 2014.
Ryan Maloney was also inducted into Keepers of the Quaich, a highly exclusive
community of those influential in Scotch Whisky, in 2012.

“We’ve gone from just your backyard liquor store to
being well-known to people in Scotland, Germany, Norway, Canada, and more. It’s
an incredible feeling,” said Ryan Maloney. He hopes the business will continue
making strides in both the community and in international retail. To learn more
