Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) inquiry period is beginning.  Our first session will be Tuesday September 24 at the Parish Center at Saint Luke's Parish in Westborough, MA.  We will meet at 7:30 PM in room 23.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith experience is welcomed!

RCIA is a parish ministry that introduces people to what the Catholic faith is about.  And it helps prepare those who feel called by God to become a member of the Catholic Church, Christ’s pilgrim church.  People join our faith from many backgrounds.  Some come from other Christian faith traditions.  Others are Roman Catholics but wish to be confirmed as adults.  Some people are simply looking to learn more about the Roman Catholic faith.  And still others join from a non-Christian background.  Regardless of your background or your spiritual goals, you are welcomed to join us and learn about what it means to be Catholic.

Some of you may know people who are seeking greater meaning in their life and a connection with God.  As the disciples of Christ that all parishioners are called to be, consider letting such people in your lives know about RCIA.  Remember that it is God that calls, but it might be a helpful first step to let that person know that we exist.

Walking through the door to our RCIA inquiry session on September 24 does not commit one to joining the Church.  Rather, it is simply an invitation for people to learn more about the faith and then in prayerful reflection with God decide whether or not to seek full communion with the Church.  Ultimately, it is God, not us, who calls!

We meet regularly once per week, but it’s not really a class.  There are no tests!  RCIA goes beyond just increasing the intellect.  The RCIA experience is more holistic in helping people discover who they are and what they are called to be in Christ.  In the end, we hope that people will come away with a compass from Christ for life’s wonderful, yet complex, journey.  For those wishing to become full members of our faith community, the program culminates in the Rite of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.
