Patch Gives Back to the Community

Westborough Patch Local Editor Michael Gelbwasser volunteered at the Worcester County Food Bank on Tuesday.

During the fiscal year ending June 30, the Worcester County Food Bank distributed enough food to help more than 100,700 people in Central Mass., Executive Director Jean McMurray said Tuesday.

The food bank's partners in Westborough include the Westborough Food Pantry, Spectrum Inc., the RFK School and Chauncy Hall Academy, according to the food bank's 2012 annual report.

The food donations are boxed by close to 400 volunteers, who worked nearly 6,000 total hours during the past fiscal year, McMurray said.

Tuesday, Patch Local Editors Charlene Arsenault and Michael Gelbwasser were among the newest volunteers at the food bank, on Route 9 in Shrewsbury.
