Need a Sofa?

Selectmen say this sofa was on the sidewalk at this Fay Street home Tuesday.

Someone left a sofa behind on the sidewalk at 5 Fay St., and Westborough selectmen didn't couch their reactions Tuesday night.

The sofa must go, members said.

The sofa had been moved to in front of the garage when Westborough Patch saw it around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

“It’s a nuisance thing, but it should be done. After one rainstorm, it becomes more worthless than it was before," Vice Chairman George Barrette said.

Barrette said Public Works Manager John Walden told selectmen about the issue Tuesday.

“Somebody moved out of an apartment and decided to leave the couch. So, that’s fine. It’ll cost taxpayers money to remove it” through the DPW, Barrette said.

Selectman Leigh Emery said that "the person that left it there should pay for its removal."

Police Chief Alan Gordon said police on Tuesday spoke with the property owner, a Sudbury company, and left a message.

Police tried reaching out to the residents, but no one took responsibility for the sofa, Gordon said.
