Quality is About Content not Quantity

Aside from the obvious most important factor for good content . . . relevance . . .

quality content is vital when compelling consumers to act.

Anyone can make a rational argument and deliver facts in support of their products and services.  But it demands vivid insight and creativity to present your goods and services in a way that packs enough emotional punch to move consumers to act.

When developing content for your website, bear in mind the consumers perspective, not your own. Your website should not serve as a self-promotional narcissistic advertisement. Instead, your website should be a platform of valuable information relating to your products and services.  When writing content for your website, write a compelling story that informs and educates and ultimately entices consumers to make an informed decision regarding purchase of your products or services.

When developing your online content . . .

Introduce your website from a position of humility and deference to your audiences needs.

Start your websites introduction from a shared place of understanding. Make your website about your target audience and their needs.

Instead of this:

About Us | Page describing who you are, organizational structure, blah blah blah
Company History | Outline format stating dates and various milestones that mean nothing to the consumer.
Products and Services | List of what you offer with typical jargon describing why yours is best.
Locations | Assumption that it matters in the online world where your offices are physically located.
Contact Us | Standard contact form to “trick” people into offering their private information.

Try this:

Hello World! | Keep it simple and short and leave your website visitors wanting more!
Our Story | Everyone enjoys a good story. What made your company what it is today? Why do you offer the products and services you offer?
What Can We Do for You? | That’s more like it.  What is it your company can do to fulfill my needs?
Locations | We won’t even include this page. We will offer our address information prominently on all pages in the event we have a physical location worth seeing.
Let’s Connect | Give me a reason to want to offer you my private information.

The role of your website content is to give your target audience knowledge, insight, advice and answers so they may make informed purchasing decisions when it comes to your products and services.  Most consumers will not make a purchase decision during a first visit. Leave your website visitors with the feeling of  ”wow, I learned a lot about (products and services) while visiting this site”.  If you accomplish that, you will get your site bookmarked for future purchase guaranteed.
