Exciting Changes for the Worcester Business Community

We were honored to be a part of the 138th annual Chamber of Commerce meeting yesterday in the beautiful and historical Mechanics Hall in downtown Worcester. Many new and exciting changes are happening for the Worcester business community. There was a positive vibe all around, and much excitement in the air around building up Worcester’s downtown.

Takeaways:

Worcester is a safe, convenient and affordable urban center. It’s the urban extension of Boston that we must embrace. The time is now for Worcester and big changes are happening for the city. Tim Murray, president of the Chamber, quoted the 1894 mayor of Worcester Clark Jillson in saying that Worcester is a “City of Workshops”. In the past that meant mostly industrial workshops, but now we can look at workshops as healthcare, the arts & sciences, clean energy, finances, etc. It’s time to not only transform Worcester’s skyline, but also how Worcester is perceived as a city.

The Worcester Bravehearts got a warm welcome to Worcester! Look out for the final schedule to be posted by February 1st, 2014. You can check them out on Twitter @WooBaseball or Facebook /WooBall.

Since we moved our offices from Boston area to Worcester November 1st, we’ve been hitting the road and speaking with locals about the perception of Worcester. We were having drinks at the trendy Ritual Restaurant on main street, which was designed by the same person who designed the high-end Shrine at Foxwoods, sipping on a delicious “Pineapple Caketini” and enjoying live acoustic music while locals are telling us that there is “nothing going on in Worcester.”

We brought this up to a Worcester resident at MassLive, who told us that many people call Worcester the city with the greatest potential and the worst self-esteem. We’d like to change that. As Mayor Joe Petty said yesterday during his speech,

Right Time; Right Place. Now is the time and Worcester is the place.

It’s time to embrace the changes happening in the city and shift our perception so that collaboratively we can work together to transform Worcester!
