When Ritu Kapur looked at locations for the SOHUM Yoga and Meditation Studio she and her husband Ajay are opening, a Westborough Shopping Center space, “I felt, was beautiful."

"When people walk in, they should feel at peace. It should be a calming, peaceful place to be,” she said.

The SOHUM Yoga and Meditation Studio now will open there, at 30 Lyman St., Suite 108B, next Monday, Aug. 12.

The Kapurs are offering a new studio special: anyone signing up now gets $5 off the five-class card, or $10 off the 10-class card. Details are found on the studio’s website.

SOHUM will focus on “offering yoga therapy, yoga for various types of conditions,” Ajay said.

Yoga for those undergoing cancer treatments, and survivors will be offered from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays, for eight weeks, starting Sept. 4, the website notes.

Ritu said that a class on Parkinson’s disorders is planned.

"We've been very lucky to find a very experienced group of yoga teachers,” she said

And Dr. Jeff Migdow will lead a Reiki 1 Attunement Training class from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, according to the website.

SOHUM also will offer clubs, Ajay said.

Other yoga studios are "like another gym, where they come and do their exercises and leave. We want to create a community atmosphere,” he said.

A Japa manifestation meditation and laughter yoga club will meet at the studio from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the website.

The Kapurs, of Hopkinton, are both into yoga and meditation.

Ritu said she has taught yoga for four years.

"That's been my passion. I've been trained to be an occupational therapist,"  which has been hr job for the last 20 years.

"I wanted to combine the two disciplines together. So, I've been teaching yoga as therapy."

This is a lovely article. I look forward to being a part of this community and sharing the gifts of yoga with others in this space.
