Taxi Regulations Needed, Westborough Police Chief Says

Town counsel hopes to present a draft to selectmen soon.

Taxi rules and regulations would help Westborough put the brakes on unlicensed cabs running here, Town Counsel Greg Franks told selectmen Tuesday night.

Franks said Westborough has "really no punishment" for unlicensed services.

Franks said Police Chief Alan Gordon asked him this summer to draft rules and regulations for review by selectmen. Franks said he hopes to present them at the board's next meeting, which is Oct. 1.

Gordon told the board that Westborough Taxi and Sunshine Taxi both operate in Westborough.

An independent taxi service also has come to Westborough, Gordon said.

"I've dealt with them in the past. They were in another community, (and) basically got thrown out of there," he said.
