Phyllis Keane had to struggle to hear us when she answered the phone this morning at her .
Why? Because the diner was packed—perhaps with some of the people .
"I get lines out the door," said Keane, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Mark Sullivan. "People want something different, and we give it to them. I'm so glad they keep coming back."
Among the breakfast items? An omelet with a portobello mushroom, bacon, feta, spinach and tomatoes, topped with pesto and served with homefries. Lobster benedict: two dropped eggs, Maine lobster, tomatoes and asparagus on a English muffin, topped with Hollandaise sauce. And, you can't forget about the fluffy pancakes, which Keane describes as "wonderful."
Keane and Sullivan have lived in Westborough for about 20 years; they are from Wellesley and Maine, respectively. The South Street Diner has been in town for nine years; three years ago, it expanded from its original location nextdoor.
The restaurant grabbed 58 percent of the vote in our "Best Breakfast" poll.
Next week, return to Westborough Patch to tell us where the best place is to get your taxes done.
