Planning Board Grants Chick-Fil-A Special Permit

The restaurant is planned for Speedway Plaza on Route 9.

The Westborough Planning Board has granted Chick-fil-A special permit for a new chicken restaurant in Route 9's Speedway Plaza.

However, the board is requiring that part of an access road to the adjacent Belmont Plaza be built to the Speedway property line - but blocked, subject to the plaza owners negotiating how to complete the road, Chairman Lester Hensley said.

Hensley said he supports having that connection, but said the planning board typically requests developers do traffic mitigation on public ways and such, not private property.

The board voted 4-0 Tuesday night to grant Chick-fil-A's special permit request for 290 Turnpike Road.

Attorney Mark Donahue, representing Chick-fil-A, thanked the board for "a very fair and open dialogue on what I know are difficult issues."
