Learn 'Tactical Awareness' on Saturday

Westborough's CrossFit Prototype will host a three-hour Tactical Awareness and Self Defense seminar for women.

Being aware of actions around them can help women identify potential threats in everyday situations, Maynard Police Detective Bill Duggan said today.

Saturday, Westborough's CrossFit Prototype will host a three-hour Tactical Awareness and Self Defense seminar for women, taught by Duggan.

The program runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the facility, 50 East Main St. The cost is $20 for members, and $35 for non-members.

"Tactical awareness" of one's surroundings will be the focus, Duggan said. Students will learn some basic physical skills, such as grabbing, as well.

"My concept was, 'If you have to use personal stuff, you've already lost,'" he said.

Duggan said he expects this basic class to be offered again. A more advanced class is in the works as well.
