Kitchen Design Firm's News is Suitable For Framing

The Westborough Design Center has projects on two magazine covers this month.

For the first time, the cover of the national Signature Kitchens and Baths magazine’s Winter 2012/2013 issue looks familiar to the Westborough Design Center’s team.

The photo shows a kitchen the team designed for a Hopkinton homeowner, interior designer Claudette Andrew says.

And it’s among two magazine covers – both for the first time – featuring the Ruggles Street firm this month.

Design New England’s January/February 2013 issue shows Andrew on the cover, standing in a kitchen the firm designed for a Marblehead architect.

“We’re blessed to have had a good 2012. We’ve had some wonderful projects. We’ve had a lot of repeat business as well. We have a lot of wonderful clients that we continue to work with and receive referrals from,” says Andrew, whose father, Al Lizotte, started the business nearly 30 years ago. Lizotte is the firm’s president and owner. Andrew's brother, Andrew Lizotte, is the project manager. Their mother, Judy Lizotte, is the office manager.

“For us, it’s just a wonderful recognition, and something I can certainly hand out to a lot of folks.”

Signature Kitchens and Baths has featured the Westborough Design Center’s work “at least a half-dozen times,” Claudette Andrew says.

“We have to pay to be in that magazine. You’re able to write a beautiful story about the homeowners, the project. You then list all of the products that you use. So, when folks pick up this magazine, they’ll say, ‘I love that color cabinet. What did they use?’” she says.

“Every so often, I’ll get a phone call from someone on the other side of the United States asking me what that light fixture was. And of course I’m always happy to answer those questions. It’s a wonderful resource for folks that are interested in renovating their kitchen. That’s what they do. That’s what we specialize in.”

The publisher called not long ago to say the Hopkinton project would be on the cover, Claudette Andrew says.

The magazine is “in all the major bookstores,” she says.

“It’s a beautiful project. There were two different cabinet fixtures that we used. We wanted to create more of a furniture look, so the dishwasher has a wood panel. The refrigerator has a wood panel. I think one of the more striking features is the backsplash, because it’s a combination of a slate and a glass backsplash, which actually they chose from Rooms With a View in Westborough.”

Meanwhile, the Design New England cover is from new construction that Claudette Andrew said she collaborated with Marblehead architect Derek Bloom on, at his home.

She says she contacted the magazine; they had held seminars together.

“I said, there’s a beautiful project up in Marblehead that I worked on. And I think you would want to consider photographing it,” she says.

A magazine crew visited the home and agreed.

“It was a great surprise to see that,” Claudette Andrew says.

“This is huge, because it’s more local base. This is Boston. I have a lot of friends in the industry and I’ve had a lot of people e-mail me already, ‘Is that you on the front cover? Wow! That’s fantastic.'"
