Julio's Offers 'Mecca for Whiskey Lovers' Next Week

Events start on Feb. 21.

What could be better for whiskey lovers than a three hour-long whiskey tasting? How about a weekend full of special whiskey-related events, right in one’s own back yard? From Friday, Feb. 21, to Feb. 23, Julio’s Liquors on Turnpike Road plays hosts to its annual Go Whisk(e)y Weekend, which has been a smash hit since its inception.

Quoted as being “a Mecca for whiskey lovers”, Go Whisk(e)y Weekend has a number of different events for all to enjoy. The event is hosted by the Loch & Key Whiskey Society, founded by Julio’s Liquors owner Ryan Maloney.

“The Loch and Key Society was created to bring whiskey lovers together in a casual forum, as well as make whiskey more accessible to those who don’t know much about it. This is our biggest event, and it’s great to see how many new whiskey converts we make each year.”

Feb. 21, is the Bourbon Dinner, held at the International Golf Club and Resort in Bolton. Starting at 6:30 p.m., diners will be provided with whiskey cocktails, and then at 7:30 p.m., they will be treated to a three-course meal with bourbon pairings. The cost for this event is $60, and reservations may be made by calling the International at 978-779-6910.

Throughout the day on Saturday, Feb. 22, Julio’s Liquors will hold whiskey seminars, a number of which were sold out not long after the tickets went on sale. Each seminar features a special guest who is an expert in whiskey, including distillers, brand ambassadors, and more. A majority of these seminars are free, but all require reservations. Then, beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, is an intimate Meet and Greet with distillery representatives. Tickets for the Meet and Greet are limited. The $20 purchase price includes a souvenir whiskey glass and hors d'oeuvres.

More than 250 individual whiskies will be featured at the tasting, and guests can not only sample the whiskies but also interact with leading whiskey experts. There is also an optional donation of $10, which includes a free tasting glass, with 100 percent of the proceeds given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
