Dream Blooms for Local Woman

Westborough native Virginia Orlando is about to open a retail location nearby.

On Saturday, June 16, the grand opening of Seed to Stem will take place on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester. The floral shop is a dream come true for Westborough native Virginia Orlando and Grafton resident Candace Atchue.

The women opened their original Seed to Stem location in Sterling, but they recently told Worcester Magazine that they were interested in moving the shop to a bigger, more walkable location.

Virginia told the magazine, “Seed to Stem specializes in creating container gardens, designer terrariums, and fresh floral design for weddings and events.”

For Virginia, her floral artistry was nurtured while growing up in Westborough. She was often seen at a florist shop on East Main Street. Melissa Orlando, her mother, owned for over 25 years. Virginia said she recalls the green house full of fresh cut flowers as one of her favorite places to roam.

She and floral designer Atchue met about ten years ago and combined their floral artistry talents with a love for nature to create the theme of the store.

"To say the least, Virginia has grown up in the business. Her new venture is beyond being a florist with so many unique offerings," Melissa told Westborough Patch.

A grand opening will take place at Seed to Stem, 174 Shrewsbury St., on Saturday, June 16 from 3 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to visit and enjoy some hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. For more information, visit seedtostembotanicals.com.
