Conservation Commission Discussing CarMax Tonight

The owners would demolish an office building and driving range.

A CarMax Auto Superstores automobile dealership is planned for Route 9, where the owners would demolish an office building and driving range.

The developers would support efforts in Westborough and its neighbors to create a multi-use trail connecting Shrewsbury to Framingham by giving Westborough an easement over the section of former Boston and Worcester Street Railway on the site, at 170 to 178 Turnpike Road, according to the dealership's state Environmental Notification Form.

"The proposed easement would provide the largest single piece of land in the Town for the path and increase the recreational development opportunities resulting from its development," the form notes.

CarMax proposes building a 57,235-square-foot auto dealership on the Route 9 site, the form notes.

The dealership would have 326 employee and customer parking spaces, and 447 inventory vehicle spaces.

Construction would start around October, and end around August 2015, the form notes.

The Westborough Conservation Commission is scheduled to continue discussing the project at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Forbes Municipal Building.
