Chamber Awards 22 Mini Education Grants

The grants totaled $7,866.79.

The Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce has awarded 22 mini-grants for projects in Kindergarten to grade 12, totaling $7,866.79.

The mini-grants were presented during the chamber's membership breakfast last Thursday, chamber officials said in a press release.

Receiving grants were:

  • Westborough High School World Language teacher Mary Flanagan: "Advancing Foreign Language Speaking Skills Through Storytelling and Games."
  • Fales Elementary School Reading Specialists Kate Finn and Beth Ramos: "A Community of Readers."
  • St. Bernadette School art teacher Peg Lien: "Community Labyrinth."
  • Peaslee Elementary School fifth-grade teachers Lisa Miranda and Andrea Daunais: "Engaging Scientific Inquiry Through Technology With Elementary Students."
  • Peaslee Librarian Nancy Kellner: "Find Your Voice: Using VoiceThread to Motivate and Engage Young Learners."
  • Proctor Elementary School Library teacher Joanne Giancola and Reading Specialist Sylvia Pabreza: "An Author Study of Jacqueline Davies."
  • Proctor School Nurse Diane Gage, Library teacher Joanne Giancola and Physical Education teacher Fernando Ferreira: "Jump. Skip. Run ... Read!"
  • Proctor Fifth-Grade teacher Liz O'Neil and Learning Center teachers Lois Shaughnessy and Amanda Sharpe: "Let's Catch the Reading Bug: Investing Struggling Learners in Independent Reading."
  • Proctor Second-Grade teacher Amy Mara: "It's in the Bag! Math Games for Families."
  • Algonquin Regional High School Visual Art teacher Danielle DeCiero: "Permanent Gallery."
  • Algonquin Science teacher Susan Vaughan: "Crime Scene Investigation."
  • Zeh Elementary School Reading Specialist Mary Lincoln: "The Missing Link! Advancing Knowledge in Science and Literacy."
