Cafe Opens at Green Thumb as Ice Cream Season Ends

The Sunflower Cafe's hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. all week.

Coffee in cups will replace coffee (ice cream) in cones at the Green Thumb.

The Sunflower Cafe held its grand opening Sunday, the day after the Green Thumb's Thumbs Up Creamery ice cream shop's last day of the season.

The ice cream shop opened at the Route 9 business six years ago, said Meg Whynot, whose family manages the businesses.

The cafe will allow the space to be used off-season, she said.

"I want to do more, like maybe having acoustic music nights, a book swap," Whynot said.

"Once the Christmas season is over, we're going to bring down couches and chairs. This is all going to be turned into a lounge."

The hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. all week, "but depending on how it goes, we might stay open later," Whynot said.
