'Whispering' Entertains Willows Crowd

The High Society Orchestra performed the Willows' latest summer concert.

One could hear whispering in the Willows at Westborough's community room on Wednesday night.

Applause for the High Society Orchestra followed.

The orchestra performed "Whispering," its theme song, to open the second part of the Willows' eight-week summer concert series.

The potential for rain moved the concert inside.

Band leader Dan Gabel told the audience the 10-piece ensemble would play songs from the '20s and '30s, "some songs that you remember, and some that you might not."

The selections included such numbers as Duke Ellington's "Black and Tan Fantasy"; "After You've Gone and Left Me Crying"; and "Because My Baby Don't Mean Maybe Now."

The concert series opened on June 19, when the Interborough Community Band performed.

The rest of the schedule is:

  • July 3: Dan Gabel & The Abletones
  • July 10: Wolverine Jazz Band
  • July 17: Westwood Swing Band
  • July 24: Tom Nutile Band
  • July 31: Fantasy Big Band
  • Aug. 7: The Reminisants
