New Folk Music Series Continues Partnership

Sally Johnson Presents and the Boroughs JCC are collaborating on the series, which begins Oct. 13.

Next Saturday, a Western Mass.-based folk trio will help launch a new Westborough concert series created by a duet.

The Boxcar Lilies will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Boroughs JCC. Baltimore-based folk duo Beggar's Ride will be the opening act. Tickets are $12.50 in advance, $15 at the door and $10 for seniors and students. The doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

The Community Folk Series is the latest partnership between local music promoter Sally Johnson Presents and the JCC, Johnson says. The series will include concerts, workshops, open mic nights and kids programs, she says.

Part of the proceeds will support expanding community programs, and preschool scholarships for families in need at the JCC, she says.

Concerts are planned for November, and then monthly from January until May or June, Johnson says.

"There might even be a couple a month," Johnson says.

"It really depends on which artists come in on tour that I'd like to book."

When audience members hear the Boxcar Lilies, "they'll notice that their harmonies are beautiful," Johnson says.

"Their playing is really in synch with one another. They have a really wonderful rapport," she says.
