Westborough Area Walks for World Hunger

Just over 100 walkers participated in Sunday's CROP Walk

Just over 100 walkers promoted world hunger awareness on Sunday by traveling from the Congregational Church of Westborough, down Route 135, to Route 30 and back to the church.

The 35th Annual Westborough Area CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk again plans to donate 25 percent of its proceeds to the Westborough Food Pantry, said Al Hutchinson, who co-chaired the walk with Judy Powell.

This year's walk had raised $4,500 as of late Sunday, Hutchinson said.

The event has raised more than $212,000 and drawn more than 4,200 walkers over its history, Hutchinson said.

The walk typically raises $5,000 to $7,000 total each year, which represents about $1,200 to $1,500 for the food pantry, he said.
