The Storm Prediction Center has given the Worcester County area a 2 percent chance of a tornado late Monday afternoon, due to a vigorous cold front and attendant squall line in front of it, as well as favorable dynamics aloft.

"My feeling right now is that if there is rotation, it should be rather weak and short lived, but this can change as the day wears on," said Jim Arnold, weather specialist with the Shrewsbury Emergency Management Agency. "However, even a weak EF0 or EF1 tornado can cause considerable damage and injuries."

Arnold said heavy showers and thunderstorms should continue into the first half of the night before tapering off and ending around midnight. Heavy showers could cause street and urban flooding, particularly with fallen leaves clogging drainage systems, he said.

The middle of the week will feature fair weather and temperatures in the 60s.

"Our next chance of wet weather would come during the end of the week, as a coastal storm works its way up the coast," Arnold said.
